Why Own a Basecamp Fitness

My name is Tanya DeGregario, and I'm from Woodbury, Minnesota. Our franchise is in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Drew Mobley, Columbia, South Carolina. I'm Suzanne Hickland from Columbia, South Carolina, and we recently just opened a Basecamp Fitness there.

What made me land on Basecamp Fitness was the fact that I wanted to get into the group fitness space. The energy around group fitness, the community that group fitness has... We opened Basecamp in 2021, so in the midst of COVID, and we had to look at ourselves and say, "Is this really a good idea? Are we crazy?" But we had been in the fitness space, and we knew that people crave those personal connections and community, so we ran with it. We took a chance, and it was the best decision we ever made.

When we opened Basecamp and we started pre-sale, people craved that community. They needed to get outside their house. They needed to be in an environment and an atmosphere and a place where they could feel not confined, and they were looking for the next thing, and Basecamp was that.

What led me to open a Basecamp Fitness was largely Basecamp's heartbeat, which is generally to welcome, encourage, and celebrate. And I really think that community atmosphere that Basecamp brings is unparalleled.

I grew up in a family business, so my family in the Detroit area owned restaurants my whole life. So my grandparents, and then my mom bought her own when I was 13, so I've basically been pouring coffee since I could see over the counter. Fast forward into adult life, and, you know, I found my passion for fitness and always worked really, really hard for other people and other brands. That's just how I roll. And I got to the point, as my girls started getting older, trying to set an example for them and loving the background of fitness, like there's something here that's pulling me to do something independently. So that's probably what led me even to the idea of franchising with Basecamp Fitness.

After I'd taken the first workout there, there was something in it that stuck with me more than any other workout. Like, I couldn't shake the feeling I felt when I walked out of the gym. Yes, workouts energized me, but this was a different kind of energy. It stuck with me all day, and I couldn't shake it.
